Roy McCalister Jr is a Husband, Father and Grandfather. A lifelong Detroit, Roy has dedicated his life to Public Service.

About Roy

Roy McCalister, Jr. was born and raised in Detroit, MI, is an alumnus of Detroit Mackenzie High School, Married to Polly Ann, and has been married for 32 years.

He is a loving father and grandfather to two sons, two granddaughters, and two grandsons.

Roy is a member and Deacon at Cedar Christian Church. In his spare time he enjoys traveling and listening to Jazz.

In 2004 after 23 ½ years of military service, he retired from the United States Army and Army Reserves, Criminal Investigative Division (CID). In 2006 after 26 plus years of service, Roy retired from the Detroit Police Department (DPD), as a Detective Lieutenant. After serving honorably in the U.S. Army, and as a Detroit police officer, he still had the urge to serve the city that he loves. Roy decided to run for Detroit City council.

Campaign Priorities

  • Affordable and accessible housing.

  • Quality grocery stores and restaurants in district 2.

  • District 2 community outreach and organizing.

  • Re-implementation of the city wide mental health task force and seminars.

  • Strong leadership at the city council and accessible representation in district 2.

  • Assist Veterans with housing and employment opportunities.

  • Assist returning residents with fair housing and fair employment opportunities.

  • Assist wrongfully convicted residents to get rights restored and compensation.
